SoleWise Support

Thanks for using SoleWise! Here you'll find answers to common questions and tips for getting the most out of the app.

Getting Started

How does SoleWise work?

SoleWise tracks your shoe mileage by counting down from a target you set—so you always know how much life is left in each pair. Add your shoes, set a target mileage, and log your activities. The color-coded progress rings do the rest:

How do I add a shoe?

Tap the + button on the main screen. Enter a name, brand, target mileage, and optionally a photo. If the shoes already have some miles on them, set a starting mileage so the countdown begins in the right place.

What target mileage should I set?

Most running shoes last 300–500 miles (480–800 km). Walking shoes may last longer. Check your shoe manufacturer's recommendation, or start with 400 miles as a safe default.

Mileage Tracking

How do I log miles manually?

Open a shoe, tap Add Mileage, and enter the distance, date, and optional notes.

Can I edit or delete a mileage entry?

Yes. In the shoe's activity history, swipe left on any entry to edit or delete it.

What's the difference between miles and kilometers?

You can switch between miles and kilometers in Settings > Distance Unit. This changes all displays, targets, and presets throughout the app and widgets. Your data is preserved—only the display unit changes.

Apple Health Integration

How do I connect Apple Health?

Go to Settings > Apple Health and enable the sync. You'll be prompted to grant SoleWise read-only access to your walking and running workouts.

You can also set this up during the onboarding flow when you first launch the app.

What data does SoleWise read from Apple Health?

SoleWise only reads walking and running workout distance data. It does not read heart rate, steps, calories, or any other health metrics. Access is strictly read-only—SoleWise never writes to Apple Health.

Why are some workouts not importing?

SoleWise prevents duplicates. If a workout has already been imported, it won't appear again. If you're still missing workouts, make sure:

  1. Apple Health permission is granted (check Settings > Privacy & Security > Health on your device)
  2. The workout is categorized as a walk or run in Apple Health
  3. The workout has distance data recorded

Can I assign workouts to different shoes?

Yes! When importing from Apple Health, you can assign each workout to the appropriate shoe—great if you rotate between pairs.

Widgets

How do I add a widget?

Long-press your Home Screen, tap the + button in the top corner, search for "SoleWise," and choose a size (small, medium, or large).

Can I choose which shoe appears in the widget?

Yes. Long-press the widget, tap Edit Widget, and select the shoe you'd like to display.

Why isn't my widget updating?

Widgets refresh approximately every 30 minutes or when the app updates mileage data. If a widget seems stuck:

  1. Open the SoleWise app (this triggers a refresh)
  2. Make sure the selected shoe hasn't been deleted or retired

Alerts & Notifications

How do alerts work?

SoleWise sends a notification when a shoe's remaining mileage drops below your alert threshold (default: 100 miles/km). You'll also get an alert when a shoe reaches its full target mileage.

How do I change the alert threshold?

Go to Settings > Alerts and adjust the threshold distance.

I'm not receiving notifications

Make sure notifications are enabled for SoleWise in your device's Settings > Notifications. Also check that alerts are toggled on in the app's Settings.

Managing Shoes

What does retiring a shoe do?

Retiring a shoe moves it to an archive. It won't appear on your main dashboard or in widgets, but its full mileage history is preserved. You can view retired shoes anytime.

Can I un-retire a shoe?

Not currently—retiring is a one-way action. If you need to keep tracking a shoe, edit it instead of retiring it.

What happens if I delete a shoe?

Deleting a shoe permanently removes it and all of its mileage history. You'll be asked to confirm before deletion. This cannot be undone.

Privacy & Data

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored locally on your device. SoleWise does not have user accounts, cloud sync, or servers. Your shoe and mileage data never leaves your device.

Does SoleWise collect analytics or track me?

No. SoleWise does not collect analytics, usage data, or personal information.

What happens if I delete the app?

Deleting the app removes all data from your device. Since there is no cloud backup, this cannot be recovered. Consider keeping the app installed even if you're not actively using it.

Troubleshooting

The app seems slow or unresponsive

Try force-closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, restart your device.

My progress ring doesn't match my expectations

The ring fills as you accumulate mileage toward your target. If you set a starting mileage, that's already factored into the countdown. Double-check your target and starting mileage in the shoe's edit screen.
